HISTORY OF INSTITUTE

Established in the center of Jabalpur city, the  school initially  started as boy’s school in 1938. Taking into consideration the importance of girl education and to provide a reliable and accessible source of education to the girls residing in the central part of the city,  this school was converted into a Girl’s School in 1942.  With the efforts of the first Principal Late  V. Chandra, the school received the High School recognition and in 1945  the girls appeared in the matriculation examination for the first time. In the same year, Smt. Manorama Chaterjee took over as the principal and the current well-known status of the school is because of her  efforts. It was during her tenure and with the hard work and guidance of the then Hitkarini Sabha Chairman Lt. Shri. Prabhu Lal Karecha, that on 4 February 1976, the then Chief Minister Hon. Pt. Shyama Charan Shukl renamed the school as “BABU MANMOHAN DAS HITKARINI GIRL’S HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL” in honour of Babu Manmohandas ji.

He was a well known figure in the state and also served as Minister in the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Under his leadership and guidance Hitkarini Sabha had taken several new initiatives including establishment of new schools, colleges and hostel in the city. After his demise, the family, led by Late Smt Shanta Devi, wife of Manmohandas ji, made donation to Hitkarini Sabha and their family continues to provide selfless service to help Hitkarini Sabha grow further.

In 2001, the primary section from Nursery to class 5th  was  initiated and young students were admitted. On  4th  February  2002 under the guidance of then Hitkarini Sabha Chairperson Smt. Ratna Kumari Devi and President Shri Yogesh Chandra Uprit, the statue of Babu Manmohan Das  was unveiled in the school campus by Hon. Pt. Shyama Charan Shukl, Ex-Chief Minister of M.P.

In the same year BMD HITKARINI CHILDREN ACADEMY (English Medium) was established under the patronage of Babu Vishwa Mohan and started providing much needed affordable English medium education in the area.
